OUR SANCTUARY
At Wild Roots, we believe the essence of childhood is free, curious, creative and alive with possibility. Consequently, children are trusted and encouraged to take an active role in their education, have the freedom to make choices and are responsible for directing their own learning. Learning unfolds naturally, rooted in respect, wonder and the rhythm of nature. Wild Roots takes a holistic approach to learning valuing all the areas of development equally: creativity, moral understanding, emotional wellbeing, spirituality and intellectual growth.
The Environment
Wild Roots is based in a natural setting with access to:
-
Outdoor learning spaces
-
Open land for exploration and movement
-
A large space for indoor learning, reflection and rest
-
Quality books, ICT resources, and materials
The environment is authentic, purposeful, and designed to feel safe.

What Learning Looks Like at Wild Roots
At Wild Roots:
-
Children choose how they engage with learning
-
Adults guide, support, and scaffold — not control
-
Learning is purposeful, contextual and meaningful
-
Emotional safety comes before academic progress
-
Children are respected as capable individuals
We believe that when children feel safe, trusted and valued, learning naturally follows.

Children are never forced to participate in activities.
Children choose how they engage. They may work independently, collaborate, rest, explore or observe.

Is Wild Roots Right for Us?
Choosing the right learning environment for your child matters deeply.
Wild Roots is not a one-size-fits-all provision — and that’s intentional.
This page is here to help you decide whether our approach feels like the right fit for your family.

✔ Your child is home educated or unable to attend school
✔ Your child has experienced school burnout, anxiety, or overwhelm
✔ You value emotional wellbeing as much as academic learning

✔ You are comfortable with a non-coercive, democratic approach
✔ You are looking for a calm, nature-based environment
✔ You want your child to rebuild confidence and autonomy

Wild Roots May Not Be the Right Fit If…
❌ You are looking for a traditional school structure
❌ You want a fixed curriculum delivered on a timetable
❌ You expect formal testing, grading, or measurable outcomes
❌ You want your child to be pushed to meet academic targets
And that’s okay, different children thrive in different environments.
