WELCOME

Wild Roots Education is a democratic, self directed learning community for children who need something different. We offer a calm, child-centred environment where learning is led by curiosity, choice and meaningful connection, not pressure or compliance. Rooted in nature and guided by trust, Wild Roots supports children to rediscover confidence, autonomy, and a genuine love of learning.

Founder's Story

First and foremost, I am a mum to my two heartbeats, Ezra and Zadie. Alongside motherhood, I am an experienced primary teacher and, for a period of time, a home-educating parent. These lived experiences - personal and professional-  sit at the heart of everything Wild Roots is.

Opening a self-directed learning community has been my heart's desire for a long time and seeing Wild Roots come into fruition truly feels like a dream come true. It has been created with love, intention and empathy, shaped by years of listening to children and families, and by following my own maternal instinct.

I envisioned a space with lots (and lots) of outdoor land, a calm and inviting indoor environment, and — most importantly- a place where children are trusted as the directors of their own day. A setting where learning feels natural, unrushed and meaningful.

Ezra and Zadie were the quiet driving force behind every decision I made while creating Wild Roots. It had to be a place I would feel completely fulfilled sending my own children to — one rooted in respect, emotional safety and joy. While they are currently very happy in their chosen school, Wild Roots exists as a gentle safety net should their needs ever change.

I hope that from the moment you and your child step into Wild Roots, you can feel the care, intention and warmth that has gone into every choice and every detail.

Childhood is short and precious. At Wild Roots, children are given the freedom to be children — to explore, to question, to play, to rest, to be wild — while naturally building strong foundations for life.

I can't wait to meet you all and to share the journey as our community grows and finds it's rhythm together.

With love, Rebecca x

Our Philosophy

At Wild Roots, we believe:

  • Children are naturally curious

  • Learning happens best through choice and purpose

  • Emotional safety comes before academic progress

  • Respect and collaboration create deeper learning than coercion

  • Children deserve autonomy, voice and dignity

Learning here is non-coercive, democratic and child-led. Adults support, facilitate, and model.
    We do not force.

Why We Exist

Through both my professional experience and my role as a parent, I became increasingly aware of a gap in educational provision.

There are very few settings that genuinely combine qualified teacher leadership, high-quality education, and meaningful indoor and outdoor learning within a small, democratic and non-coercive environment. Wild Roots exists to bridge that gap.

It offers families a consistent, nurturing learning community — one that can complement home education, provide continuity, or act as a supportive safety net as children and circumstances change. Quite simply, it is the learning environment I wished existed — for my own children, and for others.

What We Believe

Wild Roots is built on the belief that:

  • Children are capable, whole and worthy of trust

  • Learning is not linear

  • Choice and autonomy matter

  • Emotional safety is foundational

Wild Roots is for families seeking a thoughtful, grounded approach to education — whether as a long-term choice or a flexible safety net.
